Fundamentals of Dosage Form Development9 Hours
  • Pre-formulation studies: concept, need, and parameters — solubility, pKa, physical nature (amorphous/crystalline), polymorphism, hygroscopicity, particle size, flow properties, compatibility
  • Tablets: formulation design; types (uncoated, film-coated, enteric-coated, controlled-release, sublingual, buccal, dispersible, effervescent); excipients (diluents, binders, disintegrants, lubricants, glidants)
  • Manufacturing methods: direct compression, wet granulation, dry granulation; IPQC and finished-product tests (weight variation, hardness, friability, disintegration, dissolution)

Coated Tablets and Capsules9 Hours
  • Film coating: polymers (HPMC, Eudragit), plasticizers, solvents, equipment (Accela-Cota, fluidized bed); pan coating; enteric coating — polymers and test criteria
  • Hard gelatin capsules: formulation design; filling methods (manual, semi-automatic, automatic); IPQC and finished-product tests; packaging
  • Soft gelatin capsules: shell composition and plasticizers; fill materials; manufacturing methods (rotary die process); defects; quality control and stability

  • Solutions: types (syrups, elixirs, linctus, aromatic waters, spirits); formulation; solubility enhancement techniques; preservation; packaging
  • Suspensions: theory of sedimentation; formulation (wetting agents, suspending agents, flocculating agents); preparation; evaluation (sedimentation volume, redispersibility, particle size)
  • Emulsions: formulation, emulsifying agents, HLB system; preparation methods; stability testing; injectables

  • Ointments: types of bases (oleaginous, emulsifying, water-soluble, absorption bases); formulation; preparation methods (fusion, levigation, trituration); evaluation
  • Creams, gels, pastes: formulation principles; excipients; preparation and quality evaluation
  • Suppositories and pessaries: bases (fatty, water-soluble); displacement value calculation; preparation; quality control

Microencapsulation and Miscellaneous Dosage Forms7 Hours
  • Microencapsulation: concept, need, advantages, disadvantages; methods (coacervation, interfacial polymerisation, spray drying, fluidized bed coating); applications in controlled release
  • Powders and granules for reconstitution; dry powder inhalers; metered-dose inhalers: formulation and quality control
  • Packaging of pharmaceutical dosage forms: types, requirements, materials; primary and secondary packaging; regulatory requirements
